Last week, AC3 attended the FST Government NSW Forum event at The Westin in Sydney. I co-hosted a roundtable with Aaron Liu, CIO at the NSW Department of Justice.
The roundtables allowed for some valuable peer-to-peer discussions, covering multiple topics. Hybrid cloud and the shift into GovDC is always high on the agenda at these events, but there was also a clear focus on data analytics, security and citizen engagement strategies.
While the NSW government is clearly leading the way as a whole from a “Digital by Default” perspective, we were lucky enough to hear from the Queensland Mayor of one of the world’s Top 7 most Intelligent Communities for 2015. City of Ipswich Mayor, Paul Pisasale, delivered an insightful presentation on how they achieved that status and what they have planned for the future. The premise behind Ipswich’s strategies that led to their world class intelligent citizen engagement included broadband connectivity, knowledge workforce, innovation, digital inclusion, marketing and advocacy.
Cyber Security was another topic that generated good discussion. Cyber security is not just centred around mitigating threats as they appear, but it’s about preventative action, cost reduction and increasing efficiency. Given the release of the NSW Digital Strategy earlier this week included some key activity around cyber security, this will continue to be a topic at the forefront of discussion.
If you attended FST Government NSW Forum, I hope you found it valuable. If not, consider checking it out next year or feel free to get in touch with me on 02 9199 0888 to chat more about the content.
